Module 9 · The Bridge to a Career

You’ve built, secured, automated, and documented real infrastructure. This final module translates that homelab fluency into the vocabulary of industry and the cloud, and packages everything into a portfolio that gets you interviews — and gets you through them. Nothing here is new infrastructure; it’s the bridge from “I built a homelab” to “hire me,” which is the whole point of everything that came before.

Look at what you’ve done

Before the career mechanics, take a moment. Across this curriculum you have:

  • Built and hardened a Linux server from bare metal (Module 2).
  • Flashed a router and segmented a network with enforced firewall policy (Module 3).
  • Set up redundant storage, tested backups, and a hypervisor (Module 4).
  • Built zero-trust remote access with no open ports (Module 5).
  • Self-hosted your own public site and git server (Module 6).
  • Made your whole infrastructure rebuildable from code, with CI/CD (Module 7).
  • Assessed, monitored, attacked, and defended your own lab (Module 8).
  • Documented every step in public, on infrastructure you built.

That is more hands-on infrastructure and security experience than many people have after their first year on the job. This module makes sure the world can see it.

Total: roughly 20–30 hours, or 2–3 weeks part-time.

Checkpoint

  • I can explain every homelab component in cloud-native vocabulary
  • I’ve deployed and destroyed real cloud infrastructure as code
  • I have a written threat model of my own lab and acted on it
  • My portfolio site maps job requirements to artifacts a stranger can verify
  • I can confidently narrate any artifact: what, why, and what went wrong
  • I’ve done at least one mock technical interview using my own work as the material

Deliverable

A polished, self-hosted portfolio with a “Hire me” page — the culmination of every prior module, hosted on the infrastructure you built, reachable through the network you secured. The medium is the message: the site works because you made it work. Full spec in Lab 4.
